Dominica
“The Nature Island"

| Dominica (pronounced dom-in-ee-ka) is known as "the Nature Island" for good reason: this small island boasts an unspoiled rainforest, volcanic hot springs, 365 rivers and countless waterfalls. Dominica has three National Parks, one of which (the Morne Trois Piton National Park) was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998. It is the only natural world heritage site in the Eastern Caribbean. A mountainous island, Dominica rises dramatically to almost 5,000 feet above sea level. The island is mostly rural, uncrowded, and unspoiled. At least 60% of this nature paradise is still covered by lush tropical rainforest. Water is one of the island's most abundant natural resources. Numerous rivers gush out of the mountains to create spectacular waterfalls, emerald pools at the base of the falls, and dramatic gorges.
The diving in Dominica is some of the best in the Caribbean. Lots of small critters, spectacular walls, turtles, and mounds upon mounds of colorful corals, sponges, and crinoids. And don’t be surprised if you are greeted by playful dolphins or whales during your surface intervals. The waters around Dominica are just teeming with life. The water temperature is normally 78-84F degrees all year, slightly warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter. Dominica is also a mecca for the adventure traveler with dozens of other activities including snorkeling, whale & dolphin watching, kayaking, hiking, river tubing, horse back riding, mountain biking and much more. For the rugged hiker, a trip to the Boiling Lake, one of the world’s largest actively boiling lake, is a must.
Fort Young Hotel, Dominica's Preier Hotel is located on the outskirts of Roseau, the capital of this spectacular and rugged island in the Eastern Caribbean. The hotel is on the waterfront overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Escapes from reality are perfected here. Watch the sun dip into the ocean. All 70 rooms are air-conditioned, with en suite bathroom, and cable TV. Room categories include the cozy Standard Room, the comfortable Oceanview Room, the spacious Oceanfront Room and the luxurious Oceanfront Suite. All rooms have private balconies with either a view of our beautiful gardens, the historic city of Roseau or a superb view of the ocean.

The Northeast Caribbean ( St. Kitts, St. Eustatius, Saba & St. Maarten) is an intriguing area offering a blend of Dutch, British, French and native cultures on some of the most scenic islands in the Caribbean. Our itinerary includes 5 1/2 days of diving, including 2 to 2 1/2 days within the Saba Marine Park, a day within the St. Eustatius Marine Park, and 2 to 2 1/2 days at St. Kitts. Up to 5 dives daily are normally offered, including night dives. The schedule also provides for up to 3 island tours during the week, providing ample time for our guests to explore forts, rain forests, duty-free shops and museums.
The Caribbean Explorer II features private ensuite bathrooms in each of the nine air-conditioned double staterooms, as well as nitrox, a larger dive deck, and more on-board space. A crew of seven, including 4 dive instructors, caters to the needs of our 18 guests each week.
Diving Conditions are ideal. Water temperatures are in the low to mid 80s in the summer and most divers are comfortable with a 3mm wetsuit. There is normally little appreciable current at the sites we visit, and visibility is generally between 50 and 150 feet. Your dives will be done from the vessel itself, taking advantage of the easy-access dive platform and other on board amenities.
